Basel Chapter #227 Switzerland
29-31 May 2025
Exhibition Open to the Public
From May 29–31, the Ikebana Chapter Basel took part in Fantasy Basel – The Swiss Comic Con, Switzerland’s largest pop culture convention. With 97,000 visitors, the event transformed Basel into a vibrant hub for cosplay, gaming, manga, and anime.
Our booth featured Ikebana arrangements inspired by manga and anime, bringing scenes from titles like TsukiPro, Magic Kyun! Renaissance, Moebana, Girls und Panzer, Rurouni Kenshin, Millennium Actress, and Totoro to life. Each floral piece was paired with printed screenshots from the original works, allowing visitors to compare the illustrations with our real-life interpretations.
A special collaboration with calligraphy master Angela Yu added depth to the exhibit. Her expressive brushwork inspired freestyle arrangements by our artist Wally, blending written and floral art into a harmonious fusion.
For many attendees, this was their first encounter with Ikebana, and the response was enthusiastic. Through the I.I. Magazine, we introduced the philosophy and global reach of Ikebana International. Our “Keep Calm and Do Ikebana” postcards and the debut of our new mascot Sakura-san, featured in her own manga, added a playful touch.
The booth attracted a diverse and colorful crowd—from samurai warriors to furries—creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere. We extend heartfelt thanks to our team: Monika, Wally, Kyoko, Chia-hua, Ursula, Karin, Sabine, Pia, Brigit, Michael, Fritz, Peter, and all family and friends who supported us. Special thanks also go to Kai and the Fantasy Basel organizing team for their warm invitation and excellent coordination.
We’re proud to have brought the beauty of Ikebana to a new audience and look forward to next year’s event, taking place May 14–16, 2026. Until then—may the (flower) force be with you! 🌸
