New York Chapter #7 USA

Dec 5th, 2024 Demonstration Open to the Public Ikenobo
The event welcomed a total of 50 attendees, including IINY members and guests. Our honorary attendees were Madame Umetsu, spouse of the Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Counselor Chihiro Takehana from the United Nations, and Aoi Yamagishi representing the office of the Consulate General.
The program commenced with a box lunch, followed by an inspiring Ikenobo demonstration by Ms. Yiwei Zhang. In a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, Ms. Zhang crafted four arrangements, showcasing three iconic Ikenobo styles: Shoka, Rikka, and Freestyle. Her creations balanced oriental charm with contemporary living, showing attendees how traditional floral art’s modern forms can harmonize with modern spaces.
We were honored by a special speech from Madame Umetsu, who recently arrived in New York and graciously participated in the program.
The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, who praised both the demonstration and the Ginza Bazaar, making it a memorable occasion for all.
