April 16, 2025
Workshop Chapter Meeting Open to the Public
Sogetsu
The April 16, 2025 monthly chapter meeting began with the recognition and appreciation of volunteers, committee members and chairpersons by 1st President Evelyn Cesarotti and Chapter President Kim Busch. Next was the recognition and appreciation of the 2024-2025 Board of Directors. The Past President pin was presented to outgoing Chapter President Kim Busch. Next was the Installation Ceremony of the new Board of Directors. After announcement our presenter, Wanda Collins was introduced.

The workshop and program was titled “Ikebana: Using Vases with Multiple Openings” by Wanda Collins. Wanda is one of our chapter members and chapter senseis studying at the Ikebana School of Sogetsu. Wanda created a beautiful photo display with photographs of her ikebana arrangements in a variety of vases having multiple openings or multiple holes. During her presentation, Wanda created six very different ikebana arrangements using different plant materials in different vases with multiple openings. Some of the materials used were palm, sansevieria, lilies, carnations, gladiolas and chrysanthemums. The display was dramatic because of the contrasts of various heights in her demonstration arrangements.

For the workshop, the participants brought their own vases. After the presentation, they could choose materials: gladiolas, the small yellow orchids, gladiolas and a variety of unique greens from shrubs and trees in gardens of one of our chapter members, Carol Brecker. The participants enjoyed this new idea and creative approach in making their own ikebana arrangements.
