Hiroshima Chapter # 261 Japan
October 14th, 2024 Exhibition
As the October Monthly Meeting, we visited Kan-en-ryu Ikebana Exhibition in Fukuyama City. Kan-en-ryu started during the Second World War in 1943 seeking out innovative use of IKEBANA to fit the new lifestyle of the era.
Hiroshima Chapter members enjoyed the contemporary form of ikebana arrangements in the exhibition. Including the magnificent scale of art, interesting works of striking originality and the essence of Kan-en-ryu ikebana were fully appreciated.
November 3rd and 24th, 2024 Workshops
On November 3rd, we held ikebana workshop for 20 overseas students at Hiroshima International House Festival. They were welcomed to experience ikebana and we enjoyed and shared the fruitful time with them through beautiful flowers.
On November 24th, we exhibited our seasonal ikebana arrangements at the International Conference Center Hiroshima as one of the events of “International Festival 2024”. The 20 overseas students enjoyed ikebana workshop with us. They seemed to love flowers and really liked ikebana arrangements.
February 4th, 2025 Visit to What if Cats Exhibition
As the October Monthly Meeting, we visited “What if Cats Exhibition” at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. In this exhibition, we enjoyed the anthropomorphic expressions from the Edo period, particularly cat expressions in 131 works by the artists and Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s influence on them.
We enjoyed the curator’s interesting explanations and appreciated the works of a time of 150 years ago, when anthropomorphic cats were overwhelmingly popular.
After exploring many fascinating works, we also enjoyed the fine snow view of Shukkeien Garden, the famous garden of shrunken scenes next to the museum.
February 23rd & 24th, 2025 Exhibition
Hiroshima Chapter’s March Monthly Meeting was the ikebana exhibition for “The 69th Hiroshima Hana-no-Saiten” held at ‘LECT’, a commercial complex in Hiroshima. In this exhibition, our members exhibited two ikebana arrangements of Sagagoryu and Kan-en-ryu. Though it was a small-scale ikebana exhibition, seven ikebana schools in Hiroshima created a beautiful seasonal space together. Their fresh seasonal ikebana works were enjoyed by lots of people visiting the shopping mall.
