Demonstration by Ragini Kakkar, Ohara School

On June 20, 2024, the Ikebana International Mumbai Chapter hosted a memorable demonstration by Mrs. Ragini Kakkar from the Ohara School of Ikebana at The Club in Mumbai. The event was attended by 40 members and 10 guests, who gathered to appreciate the beauty of this traditional Japanese art form. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Koji Yagi, and Ms. Megumi Hamuro, Consul of Information and Culture.

During the event, Mr. Koji Yagi took the opportunity to address the audience, delivering a few words in Hindi. His thoughtful gesture of speaking in the local language was met with warm applause, leaving the audience very impressed. This act not only highlighted his respect for the local culture but also strengthened the bond between the Japanese and Indian communities present.

Mrs. Ragini Kakkar, a respected Ikebana artist, showcased 10 exquisite arrangements, each embodying the simplicity and elegance that define the Ohara School, emphasizing simplicity, balance, and the harmonious use of natural elements. Her designs were not only aesthetically pleasing but also thought-provoking, reflecting the deep philosophy of Ikebana “Less is more”. Her final arrangement, dedicated to the motto of Ikebana International—“Friendship through Flowers”—resonated deeply with the attendees, symbolizing the universal connection that flowers bring across cultures.

The event was a true celebration of cultural exchange and the enduring friendship between India and Japan, leaving everyone inspired by the beauty and meaning behind the art of Ikebana.
