Celebration for 60th Anniversary
Exhibition Open to the Public Ikenobo, Ohara, Sogetsu

On Friday, July 18, 2025 the Columbus Chapter #84 celebrated its 60th Anniversary at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. 21 members and friends were gathered. Chapter President, Virginia Duym welcomed three past chapter presidents who were able to present that day. Four other past presidents were unable to attend. A brief time of remembrance was observed honoring Dorothy Bates, Myrna Cordray, Hazel Bergamo, and Karen Shockey who have passed away since the chapter celebrated its 50th Anniversary, along with the passing of special teachers, Lewis Shupe and Gary Bariow.

Then, those present engaged in an interactive game of Ikebana international Trivia where correct answers were rewarded with small prizes. Information was shared along with much laughter.

Next, the members who participated in creating a design for the onsite exhibit that day were able to share a little about what inspired their designs and what they hoped for their future in ikebana. Some also incorporated materials and /or memories from their past ikebana experiences and teachers.
“Friendship through Flowers” was truly expressed and shared during a potluck style brunch.

The event closed with a raffle for three different ikebana containers and a new wedding kimono which had been donated for this event.

Needless to say, it was a morning of joy, laughter, remembering, sharing ….a tribute to our chapter’s past present and future.
