Gurugram Chapter #255

Ikebana International Gurgaon (Gurugram) Chapter was co-founded by Dr. Indira Misra, Ohara School of Ikebana. Dr. Indira Misra, Kiku ,First Master, Ohara School was recently decorated with The Order of the Rising Sun, the Gold and Silver Rays. It is due to her dedicated promotion of Ikebana in India and her efforts to create a deep mutual understanding and cultural bonding between Japan and India. Mr. Suzuki Satoshi, Ambassador of Japan to India hosted a ceremony to felicitate Dr. Indira Misra.

She has devoted her life to this magical Art of Ikebana learning and teaching it which brings peace, grace and joy leading to Zen meditative state of mind to the practitioners of this exceptionally beautiful performing art. It is almost like playing on a musical instrument, creating music with a riot of colors by dexterous fingers, aesthetically creating images not with brush and paint but with flowers in millions of colors and shapes with foliage in several shades of green. Bamboo, driftwood, branches of almost all trees and plants too are used to add body and mass to the arrangements giving them extra dimension, charm, and style.

On 13th February, 22 Dr. Indira Misra posted a few arrangements in the Rising Form only on the IIG WhatsApp group. The event was meant to encourage the new members to learn and practice Basic Ohara Hana Isho. She has been the forerunner of Online and Zoom Demonstrations and workshops all through the lockdown period due to Covid 19 and later when the new variant of Corona, Omicron emerged. Incidentally, our chapter under her leadership coined a new word ‘Lockebana’ during the first phase of Corona.
