Demonstration Ryuseiha Ikebana Demonstration & Ginza Bazaar
Ikebana International New York Chapter hosted a Ryuseiha Ikebana Demonstration & Ginza Bazaar, combining an educational floral art presentation with a cultural marketplace celebrating Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship.
The program featured a Ryuseiha Ikebana demonstration by Chikako Fissel (Ikebana name: 想雲), a certified master who has studied Ryuseiha Ikebana for over 14 years under Masako Gibeault. Her demonstration highlighted the Ryuseiha philosophy of Kusabana no Kao—“the face of plants”—emphasizing the natural beauty and vitality inherent in each botanical material.
In parallel, the Ginza Bazaar offered attendees an opportunity to shop for new and gently used ikebana tools and Japanese items. The bazaar also featured pottery by Keiko Inouye, who apprenticed under a disciple of Japanese Living National Treasure Kei Fujiwara.
The event provided a welcoming cultural and educational experience for both members and guests, encouraging community engagement and appreciation of Japanese floral art traditions.
