San Diego Chapter #119

On April 25, 2022, at the request of new chapter member, Susan Hoe, two San Diego Chapter board members, President Judi Bowes (Sogetsu) and Librarian Joan Azar (Ohara), gave an ikebana demonstration to 22 residents of the Paradise Village Retirement Community in National City, near San Diego.

Judi and Joan made several arrangements, which were given away in a raffle following the demonstration. One of the most interesting parts of the demonstration was when the two arrangers each used bird of paradise (Strelitzia) to create arrangements that illustrated the similarities and differences between two schools of ikebana. The demonstration received enthusiastic reviews, resulting in the retirement community arranging a van to bring interested community members to an upcoming general membership meeting, where they could further expand their new appreciation of ikebana.
