San Diego Chapter #119
In April and May 2022, the San Diego Museum of Art celebrated its forty-first year of Art Alive. Annually, Art Alive fills the Museum with the fresh scent of flowers as floral designers create arrangements to interpret selected works of art in the Museum. Art Alive is the major event of the San Diego Museum of Art and is typically enjoyed by thousands of visitors every spring. As has been the case for many years, the San Diego Chapter played a central part in this year’s event. First Vice President, Valli Reed, once again served as one of three members of the Museum’s Floral Design Committee. Both Valli Reed and our chapter’s Friendship Chair, Jackie Zhang, are designated “Legacy Designers,” meaning that they have provided above and beyond participation in Art Alive for at least 20 years.
The Museum event was held from April 28 through May 1, 2022. Ten members of our chapter interpreted works of art on display in the Museum: Helen O’Hara (Ichiyo); Jackie Zhang (Ohara); Jeff Fine (Sogetsu); Judi Bowes (Sogetsu); Marina Khudobina (Sogetsu); Sachiko Kohatsu (Ikenobo); Sue Elsayeh (Ichiyo); Valli Reed (Ichiyo); Yumi Rakers (Sogetsu); and Yuriko Caldwell (Sogetsu).
