San Francisco Bay Area Chapter #31 USA

Chapter Meeting and a demonstration by Ikenobo Professor
September 20, 2024
After welcome remarks by our Co-President Mitsuko Maruyama and introduction of the side table arrangements made by I.I. members representing many schools, we embarked on a new and exciting program year.
We were fortunate to have a demonstration by award winning Professor Joseph Lam of the Ikenobo school. Professor Lam delighted us with his beautiful arrangements and in-depth explanations regarding the philosophy and techniques behind them. It was a very special treat.

Demonstrations Open to the Public
Our program this month featured three of our smaller schools, Aratame, Chiko and Enshu. The newest school in our Chapter is Aratame.
Sumi Metz presented the techniques and the concepts of Aratame.
Aratame emphasizes contemporary styles and progressive modern designs. Christina Schuknecht demonstrated the artistry of the Chiko School.
Chiko is known for its use of decorative objects and figurines in their arrangements.
One of the oldest schools in our Chapter is Enshu. Enshu was founded in the early part of the 17th century and is noted for its curving lines and elegant classical style. Rayko Kurosaki demonstrated the beauty and techniques of Enshu Ikebana.
