Wilmington Chapter #212
Our chapter celebrated Spring with its 40th Annual Ikebana Exhibition held at the New Hanover County Arboretum on March 25 – 26. The 2 day event hosted 230 guests who had the opportunity to view 58 arrangements in the Ikenobo, Ohara, and Sogetsu styles. Chapter members were on hand to answer questions and educate the public about the various schools of Ikebana.
The Cape Fear Bonsai Society of Wilmington joined in to display masterfully tended Bonsai. There was a special display of various Japanese crafts such as origami, temari balls, Japanese lacquer, textiles, fans, and paper art. On the second day of the event Ikenobo Professor 2nd Grade, Mary Lee Hawse and Ohara teacher, Karen Chevrotte provided demonstrations to a full house.
The event was a total success as measured by the smiles, interest and goodwill generated by the public display of Japanese Ikebana, Bonsai, crafts, and goodwill.
