Zurich Chapter #214 Switzerland
Workshop Ikenobo School October 11th – 13th 2024
Twice a year, Ikebana International Zurich Chapter hold a workshop to introduce Ikebana to beginners. For the second time this year it was held under the guidance of Prof. Reginaldo Bockhorni and Carmen Rothmayr of Ikenobo.
Autumn offers a lot of beautiful ikebana materials: berries, grasses, yellow-red leaves, twigs and all kinds of colourful flowers. Carmen Rothmayr collected most of them from a flower field and some specialities from her own garden.
On Friday night, over dinner with the group, we officially opened the seminar.
During the discussion, it soon became clear that three out of the ten participants already had various Ikebana experiences and had already taken part in our Lassalle Haus Ikebana courses several times. The program began with a PowerPoint presentation on the origins and history of ikebana. Prof. R. Bockhorni spoke about the chronology and documented it with many pictures. The development of ikebana from the 15th century to the present day was also shown with seven ikebana arrangements. A Nageire, a Shoka Shimputai and a Jiyuka were created on site by both Carmen Rothmayr and Prof. R. Bockhorni as a demonstration.
The Saturday evening program was dedicated to the theme of “alternative fixations”. The first demonstration was an arrangement with the technique of pinched branches, the second with pinched leaves and the third with marbles.
On Sunday morning, after Prof. R. Bockhorni’s theory, ten women were once again able to create a very modern Jiyuka using the latest insertion technique from Ikenobo. The willow rhombs were perfect for this technique.
Thanks to Lassalle Haus for their hospitality and providing a wonderful venue, we had such a rich program, with participants able to take part in a lot of lessons and get to know different fixing techniques with Kenzan, Kubari and Oasis.
