Cologne Chapter #126 Germany
EKO-HAUS Garden Festival
Exhibition of Ikebana International Cologne was held in the EKO-HAUS in Düsseldorf in Germany.
On a sunny autumn day in mid-September the EKO-HAUS celebrated their traditional garden festival. It is supposed to be a day of encounter, getting to know people, connecting, and reuniting Japan and Germany. The musical program included Taiko performances, Koto, Jiutasja-shamisen songs, lute, children`s choir of the EKO-preschool, a dancing performance and a sword fight.
On the way to the Ikebana exhibition there were displays of calligraphy. Perfectly prepared visitors could enjoy various Ikebana arrangements. Starting by a Sogetsu mini-arrangement and ending with a man-sized Ichiyo arrangement, it was all on display. Ichiyo members from the Netherlands and Austria joined the exhibit, fostering friendship across borders.
Group arrangements by our chapter used multiple basket containers and one installation was formed by aspidistra-allium-onion material. Working as a team is always so enjoyable and instructive.
Demonstrations were held by different schools, Ichiyo, Ikenobō, Koryu-Toyokai, Mishō and Sōgetsu, followed by vivid interactions of members and visitors.
A perfect venue for an Ikebana exhibition, a beautiful temple within a peaceful Japanese Garden, is always worth a visit.
