Melbourne Chapter #29

The first meeting for 2022 of the Melbourne Chapter was held on Monday 7th February at 6.30 pm. This time was chosen to provide an opportunity for members who are not able to attend the usual morning weekday meetings. It was a pleasure to see the twenty-five members who attended.

The guest speaker for the meeting was Mr. Peter Gertler, a manufacturing jeweler, gold and silversmith, who spoke about the ‘spirit and simplicity’ of Japanese art. Mr. Gertler spoke about his career and focused on his long-standing interest in, and study of, Japanese aesthetics. He demonstrated the influence of Japanese design with some beautiful examples of his craft. Many of his observations had direct relevance to the art of ikebana which resonated with members at the meeting.
