Hiroshima Chapter # 261, Japan

Workshop

On November 5th, we held ikebana workshop for overseas students at Hiroshima International House Festival in Hiroshima. 20 foreigners were welcomed to experience ikebana and through beautiful flowers we could enjoy and share the fruitful time with them.
Also, on November 19th, 9 Hiroshima members exhibited their seasonal ikebana arrangements for non-Japanese people at the International Conference Center Hiroshima as one of the events of “International Festival 2023”. 14 oversea students enjoyed ikebana workshop with us. They seemed to love flowers and they really liked ikebana arrangements. We shared the enjoyable time through beautiful flowers.

Exhibition

I.I. Hiroshima Chapter’s February monthly meeting was the ikebana exhibition for “The 68th Hiroshima Hana-no-Saiten” held at ‘LECT’, a commercial complex in Hiroshima. In this exhibition, Hiroshima members exhibited 2 ikebana arrangements of Sagagoryu and Kan-en-ryu. Though it was a small-scale ikebana exhibition, 7 ikebana schools in Hiroshima created a beautiful seasonal space together. Their fresh seasonal flower works were enjoyed by lots of people visiting the shopping mall.

Spring Tour

On May 20th, the members of Hiroshima Chapter strolled around Miyajima, a small island outside the city of Hiroshima. First, we tried handmade experience of ‘Momiji Manju’, the most famous confectionary in Hiroshima at Yamadaya, a manufacturer of a maple-leaf-shaped bun with bean-jam filling in Miyajima. Freshly baked pastries were so delicious, and it was such a wonderful experience for us. Next, we visited ‘Miyajima Kitaoji Rosanjin Museum’ and enjoyed a wide range of Lushan art works such as pottery, lacquer, books, paintings, and engraving. After that we had lunch at ‘’Les Clos’ a quiet and peaceful restaurant away from the tourist street. It became a memorable spring tour in May.

Exhibition

It was grateful for us to be able to hold “Flowers Across the Borders Exhibition 2024” on August 6th again. 32 beautiful ikebana works including by the honored exhibitors from Fukuoka, Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo Chapters were placed in the open space at the center of Hiroshima City. Lots of people stopped by at the venue and appreciated a variety of 32 creative arrangements.
Four years have passed since the event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We greatly appreciate every suggestion and effort that has been made wishing more peaceful world in the future.
