Memphis Bamboo Chapter # 44

Our March meeting theme was Girl’s Day, which is traditionally on March 3rd in Japan. Our chapter is very fortunate this year to have as an Honorary Member, Maika Yamaoka, a resident of Tokyo, Japan. Maika is presently serving as the University of Memphis and Memphis Botanic Garden Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator. Maika gave an interesting and personal description of how Girl’s Day is traditionally celebrated and displayed many of her dolls. Various members also displayed their Japanese dolls. This month’s hostesses and arrangement designers went all out in making this a real celebration with festive decorations and delicious food!
