Seattle Chapter #19

The 6th Annual JAPAN WEEK @ Bellevue College was held from Saturday, September 24th through Friday September 30th, 2022. The 4th and 5th JAPAN WEEK events were held as virtual (online only) events. In 2022, this 6th annual event was presented in a “hybrid form” being a combination of live sessions on campus, live online webinar sessions, and pre-recorded videos on the Bellevue College’s website. Saturday, September 24th was JAPAN WEEK’s Public Day where everyone from the community was invited to the Bellevue College campus to enjoy “things Japanese”.

Our Chapter participated in this “in-person” Saturday event by providing 15 ikebana arrangements from 5 different ikebana schools (Hua Yuan, Ikenobo, Saga Goryu, Senke, and Sogetsu). In addition, Shirley Hill from the Sogetsu School gave a very inspiring “live” ikebana demonstration.

Following are some interesting facts about the 6th JAPAN WEEK reported by the JAPAN WEEK organizer: The JAPAN WEEK student web team stated Google Analytics reported over 4,500 viewers from a total of 40 countries visited the JAPAN WEEK website preceding, during, and after the event. On September 24th, they estimated about 4,000 visitors came to the Bellevue College campus to enjoy JAPAN WEEK’s Public Day.
