Seattle Chapter #19

The 2022 Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival was held on April 8th, 9th, 10th at the Seattle Center, WA. Our chapter participated in this annual three-day celebration of Japanese culture and history with ikebana exhibits and demonstrations led by co-chairpersons, Takako Shiozaki and Linda Vane.

Our ikebana exhibit was held on the third floor of the Seattle Center Armory showcasing fifteen ikebana arrangements representing four schools (Hua Yuan, Saga Goryu, Senke, and Sogetsu). Fifteen Seattle Chapter members and their families participated as hosting volunteers during the festival. Host volunteers representing five different schools (Hua Yuan, Ohara, Saga Goryu, Senke, and Sogetsu) were all wonderful representatives welcoming guests to the exhibit and answering their many questions about ikebana and our organization.

Two “in-person” ikebana demonstrations were presented on the stage in the Fisher Pavilion by the following members: Dean Ishiki (Senke) on Saturday and Megumi Schacher (Sogetsu) on Sunday. Both ikebana demonstrations were well attended and the audiences were very attentive and appreciative each time.
