New Year Luncheon 2020
New Year Luncheon 2020, Shizuko Okubo, International Third Vice-President
On January 27, 2020, Ikebana International’s annual New Year Luncheon 2020 was held at the Palace Hotel in Tokyo. Ikebana International Honorary President honored us with her presence at our New Year Luncheon. We joined in celebrating the New Year 2020 and enjoyed a special ikebana demonstration by Mr. Hiroki Ohara, headmaster of Ohara School. Approximately 448 people along with our Honorary President HIH Princess Takamado and distinguished guests including spouses of ambassadors of 14 countries and regions, iemotos and members from 6 overseas and 12 domestic chapters joined in the celebration.
It was organized by Headquarters in cooperation with Tokyo Founding Chapter. Ikebana exhibitions from eleven domestic chapters and headquarters created a splendid New Year atmosphere. We enjoyed photos of activities of participating chapters shown on two big screens beside the stage. Also photographs of all office staff were introduced and photos of the ikebana exhibitions on the day were broadcast after the photos of the participating chapters.
On the next day, we also held an “Origami Workshop” by Mr. Kobayashi who is a director of Origami Kaikan and “Tea ceremony”. The spouses of ambassadors of 4 countries, members and guests from overseas and domestic chapters participated. A total of 48 people joined us. This was a good opportunity to catch up with our Ikebana mates.
These days were wonderful to share our motto Friendship through Flowers. Headquarters appreciated the participation and kind support from so many chapters and members.
